Home at last.  After being at the hospital for over 12 hours, I've never been more relieved to be in my own kitchen.  As I watch the lettuce, cucumbers and carrots being shredded in the food processor, the hum of the motor makes my stomach even more impatient.  This has been my diet lately.  That's if I even remember to eat.  Frozen food and salad.  I used to cook real meals that involved raw meat, grains and raw vegetables but time has not been on my side.  I finally pulled it off.  I actually proved my mom wrong.  Somehow I managed to become a medical resident within two years.  Since most of the advanced Science courses I took in undergrad counted for the first year of medical school, I spent the day taking 30 units of courseload and went straight to the hospital to complete my internship in the children's unit.

Photobucket

Sitting here in my lab coat, with a stethoscope in my pocket, I've never felt more proud in my life to accomplish such a dream: being a medical resident.  I am only two years and a medical license away from becoming Lyn Santori, M.D.  I couldn't have done this without Brad.  Now that he's a general practitioner, he really helped open doors for me to in the hospital.  Even when I was still in medical school, he exposed me to a network of doctors, professors and nurses that would help me establish my residency.  I will forever be indebted to him for that.

But my heart can't ignore the fact that we hardly see each other anymore.  Even though we celebrated our success by buying this apartment and owning it as a condo, we are hardly ever here.  When I get home, he's still at the hospital.  When he gets home, I'm at the hospital.  It's become a daily routine to eat alone, gazing out into the view of the city, drowning in the deafening silence of my solitude.  I never noticed how quiet this place was until now. I used to make dinner for the both of us, but after the food got cold and waiting a few hours for him to come home, I gave up on the notion.

"A chair is still a chair
Even when there's

No one sitting there
But a chair is not a house
And a house is not a home
When there's no one there
To hold you tight
And no one there
You can kiss goodnight"

Photobucket

I remember snuggling next to him under a sheet as we watch movies late at night.  He would put his arms around me, we would crack jokes at the cheezy lines and it would be a matter of time before we become aware of each other's presence.  His mere scent and body heat would make my temperature rise, and before we know it,  the couch would creak while he's on top of me, my legs wrapped around his waist.  I can't remember what movie we would watch, but the sound of our ragged breathing accompanied with my deep moans are deeply inbedded in my memory.

Photobucket

Sleeping alone is also something that I had to get used to.  Before, I would not be able to sleep without him by my side.  But that's not an option anymore.  The sight of the bed used to mean one thing: hot, can't-take-it-anymore sex.  I giggle at the naughty, nasty, vile things that we did to each other on this bed, sometimes wondering how we ever left the room.  But our desire for success became stronger than our desire for each other, and oftentimes, it feels like we are more roommates than lovers.

"I know, baby." I would stroke Nikki's beautiful face as she stares at me, wondering when her daddy is coming home.  "I miss him too."

"Now and then I call your name
And suddenly your face appears
But its just a crazy game
When it ends, it ends in tears"

Photobucket

At least I still have Nikki to keep me company and warm at night.  She's the closest thing to a daughter that I've ever had.  She's always with me, and I swear sometimes, she acts more like a human than a dog.  She understands almost everything that I say, and she listens patiently as I ramble on about my day.  Sometimes she would place her paw on my leg when  my loneliness escapes in a form of tears.  She would lick my face until I smile again.

But as much as I love my Nikki, she's not Brad.  I miss him.  I miss us.

The next day, I made plans with Brad to meet me at the park at 4:00 p.m.  It's my day off, and he's supposed to have a short day, so I figured this would be a nice way for us to spend some quality time together.  It's been weeks since we last saw each other for more than a few hours, and even longer since we had any intimacy, let alone a nice, passionate kiss.  God, I miss that connection. I miss the butterflies in my belly when I taste his lips, or the shivers that run down my spine when he kisses my neck, and especially the way my body trembles when our skins touch.  I miss getting lost in his pale blue eyes, I miss that feeling.  That rush, that excitement, that thrill of wanting and needing him so desperately, it hurts.

It is now past 6 p.m., and it's getting dark.  I've been waiting for him to show up, or at least a text or phone call to let me know he can't make it.  It's been two hours, and I'm still sitting here by myself, feeling like a moron.  Even when I try to call his cell phone, it goes straight to voicemail.

Photobucket

Just when I get ready to leave, I see a guy walking towards me. Oh my God, it's Luke.  Even in the fading sunlight, I can make out his handsome, rugged face.  I watch his arm and leg muscles flex with each step that he takes, making me hold on to the chains even tighter.  Even though the metal feels cold in my hands, his eyes burn through me, making me feel warm inside, and I sit nervously as he comes closer.

"Hey, Lyn!" His mouth widens in a smile as he waves at me.   No, no. Don't smile like that.

"Hey, Luke." I wave back, hoping he won't sit next to me.  Maybe he's just passing by.  Then I can head to my car and go home.

Photobucket

"Where's Brad?" He asks, deciding to grab the empty swing and sit on it. Rats!  If I leave now, he'll think I'm avoiding him.  If I stay, I'm just asking for trouble.  Since I met him less than two years ago, I got really weirded out.  I thought I was insanely in love with Brad, and he was the only man that I would ever be attracted to, but my heart and body betrayed me.  I cannot, for the life of me, explain why I kept stealing glances at him and why his penetrating gaze made my pulse race.  Not only did I find myself flirting with him with Brad around, but I found myself attracted to him.  And he just HAD to act all heroic, saving our lives by putting out that fire.  Why?? Why did you have to be a freaking hot fireman??

So how did I deal with it?  I avoided him.  I avoided any situation that would put me in the same room with him by declining any type of get-together that involved him.  No parties, no barbeques, no dinners, no lunches.  Nope, not even Super Bowl Sundays.  And that really wasn't hard to do since our schedules (mine and Brad's) became really hectic, and we were hardly at home.

"He was supposed to meet me here but he's late. "  I focus my attention on a gray rock next to my foot.

Photobucket

"Okay.  Wow, I haven't seen you guys in ages. " He pushes his foot against the ground as he lightly sways back and forth.  My mind wanders into a dirty place, hypnotized by the movement of his body.  He looks like he'd be gentle with a woman, but at the same time, he looks like he'll just take what he wants.  Dammit, Brad needs to come soon or I'm about to rape this man.

"I know, we've been really busy at the hospital." I explain, watching the incandescent park lamp turn on above us, illuminating his face.  His eyes deepen into a forest green color, lost in thought as he nods.

"I understand.  So did you finish med school yet?"

"Yeah, I did.  I'm a resident now." It feels nice to share that with someone.  And for him to ask, it shows that he's interested in what's going on with my life.

"Nice! Congratulations!" His eyes are wide open, as if he's shocked and impressed at the same time.

"Thank you.  I did it in two years but let me tell you, I spent more time at school and the hospital than at home." I shake my head, still wondering how I survived the last two years and still retain my sanity.

"Wow, so you're a doctor now like Brad?" That gaze.  It's the same look that I gave him that night after he put the fire out.  Respect and admiration.

"Not quite.  I won't get to practice until I'm licensed and finish residency."

"But you wear a lab coat and badge, so no one can tell."

"Haha. True." Sighh...it feels good to laugh.  It feels good to talk to someone, period.  I close my eyes as the rustling of trees soothe my ears, drowning out the sound of crickets singing behind the bushes.  Even with the summer breeze grazing my skin, it's still warm outside.

Photobucket

"What about you?  Saved any lives lately?" I smirk, wiggling my eyebrows.

"Why do you say it like that?" He chuckles, narrowing his eyes.

"Like what?" I meet his eyes again, which hold a mixture of shyness and burning curiousity.

"I don't know.  You say it like saving lives is hot."  His voice is getting velvety.  Oh dear.

"What?? How did you get that?" My cheeks start to feel warm.

"Come on, admit it." He leans towards me, challenging me with his eyes.

"Oh gawd, just because you're a firemen you think you're so hot??" I roll my eyes, letting out an exasperated breath.  Leave now, before you dig yourself an even bigger hole.

"That's not what I said."

"Whatever."

"You think I'm hot?" He has this smug grin on his face that I just want to slap.

"No.  And you know what? I gotta go." I get up, slinging my purse over my shoulder.

"Lyn, I'm just joking!" He jumps up, his face only inches away from mine.

"I know.  But I really have to go.  It was good seeing you again."

"Luuuke!! We gotta go, bro!" A male voice calls out from  a distance.

"That's my brother Nate.  We were playing football earlier." His gaze returns to me.

"You should go.  I'll talk to you later." As I walk away, I feel his hand on my arm.

"Here's my number, if you ever want to talk...or whatever." He shrugs as he hands me a piece of paper.

"Thanks." I flash him a brief smile before I turn around and head to my car.  I know he's Brad's best friend and I'm treading on dangerous territory, but at this point, I'm keeping an open mind.

"I'm not meant to live alone,
Turn this house into a home
When I climb the stairs

And turn the key
Oh, please be there

Still in love
Still in love with you"

By the time I get home, I don't even realize that it's past 9 o'clock. Gosh, how long have I been talking to Luke?  Brad still has his coat on, which means he probably just got home too.

"You couldn't call?" I ask him blankly, trying to hide the disappointment in my eyes.

"What do you mean?" He looks puzzled.  He tries to kiss me, but I push him away.

"You forgot??" My jaw drops, along with my heart.  I waited for hours, and he didn't even remember.

Photobucket

"Were we supposed to do something today?" He shrugs, as if he doesn't understand what the big deal is.

"Brad, you were supposed to meet me at the park at four!!" I snap, losing my patience.  I can understand if he was running late, heck, I can even understand if he forgot.  But to just stand there and act like it's not a big deal?  That hit a nerve, and I just couldn't contain my anger anymore.

"I forgot, okay? I'm sorry!  I couldn't get out of the hospital til now." He shakes his head as if he's annoyed that I even bring up such a thing.

"Yeah, well, we both work at the hospital.  This was your day to leave early and you didn't!!"

"I tried, but someone called sick and I had to fill in for their shift."

"And you couldn't call me to tell me that?  I waited for you for hours!!" I look at the face of the man that's supposed to be on my side, who's supposed to be on my team, but he's never felt so far away from me until now.  I used to be able to count on him for anything, but lately it seems like I've become more of an inconvenience.

Photobucket

"Look, I said I was sorry.  What else do you want me to do??" The eyes that I used to get lost in look annoyed, tired and burned out.

"You know what?? Nothing.  Luke was there, at least he kept me company." I say calmly, looking him dead in his pale blue eyes, hitting him where it hurts.  Yeah, I said it.

"What??"

"You heard me.  He saw me waiting by myself so he kept me company."

"You were with him this whole time?!!" He points his finger at me, eyes ablazed in anger and jealousy.

Photobucket

"Well maybe if you showed up, there would be no need for him to keep me company!!" I scream, hating him even more for reminding me that he's not around like he used to be.  I hate the fact that another man kept me company tonight.  I hate the fact that he doesn't seem to care.  I hate the fact that our relationship is dying right in front of our eyes, and I don't know what to do to fix it.

"Is there something going on between you and Luke?!!" He shouts, inching closer to me, his hot breath on my face.  His eyes are drenched in rage, digging into mine as if he's trying to force my secrets out.

"No.  But you're pushing me towards him." As soon as those words come out of my mouth, I hear the truth.  We're losing each other.  I thought our love was invincible.  I thought nothing would ever come between us.  I thought he was the only man I would ever want and need.  I thought he was the one I would spend the rest of my life with.  And the realization that he may not be...can no longer hold back the hot tears drowning my eyes.  They stream down my cheeks, along with the painful truth.

I make an attempt to run to the bathroom and hide, but he grabs my arm.

Photobucket

"If that motherfucker even touches you..." He growls under his ragged breath, pushing me against the kitchen wall as he devours my lips.  Hot sparks of electricity shooot down my moist parts at his drastic reaction, probing my mouth forcefully with his tongue.  I let out a soft moan as I slip my hands beneath his shirt, feeling how smooth and hard his chest is.  Fuck yes, I miss this!! With his warm mouth sucking on my neck, he impatiently unbuttons my jeans, nearly pulling me on the floor with it.

"This is my pussy..." He hisses through his teeth as he parts my legs and strokes my sensitive flesh, making me even more wet.

"Mmmm...." I moan feverishly, grinding against his hand, trying to free the erection straining inside his pants.  The feel of his hard, smooth length in my hand sends my body in a frenzy, making me even more desperate to have him inside me. It's been too long.  Way too long.

Photobucket

"You miss daddy's dick?" He murmurs through heavy-lidded eyes as he pounds into me, with my back rubbing against the cold kitchen tile.  I arch my back, savoring how hard he feels, loving how he fills my aching need, stretching me to the point of pain and pleasure.

"Yes, I miss daddy's dick..." I whimper, my eyes rolling to the back of my head in delirious ecstasy as I absorb the heat from his body, opening up to every deep thrust.  I want him, all of him inside, if this is what it takes to get that connection again.  God, I miss this.  So fucking much.  I stroke his hair as he lowers his face to suck on my nipples, hard, to the point where I hiss at the pain.  He groans on my breast as he reaches for my ass, pulling me to him even closer until he can't go any deeper.

"Fuck..." He grumbles, moving faster as I wrap my legs around his waist, knowing he's ready to explode.

"Come hard for me, Brad..." I stroke his face, anxious to see that agonized pleasure that I haven't seen in a long time.

"Fuuuuuuucccckkk!!!" His voice echoes through the kitchen as he takes his final thrusts, his body shaking intensely.  With my legs still wrapped around his waist, I search his eyes.  Tears  run down the side of my face when I find that vulnerability again, letting me know that we are still connected.  He gently wipes my tears away before flipping me over until I'm on top of him.  He kisses my forehead as he wraps his arms around me.  I rest my face on his chest, controlling my breathing until it matches his own, and we lay there in silence, absorbing each other.

Photobucket

Six weeks later, I start getting strange symptoms of nausea, light-headedness and strange twinges in my lower abdomen.  Especially in the morning.   My breasts have also been unusually sore and tender.  My suspicious grow even stronger when my period doesn't show up for three weeks.  Am I pregnant??

Photobucket

I finally find the courage to go to the drug store and buy a pregnancy test kit.  I guess there's only one way to find out.  This has been driving me crazy.

Photobucket

Ding.

The kitchen timer goes off. That had to be the longest three minutes I've ever had to wait in my life.  Okay, here we go.  What that stick says could change everything.  If there are two lines, I'm going to be a mom.  Am I ready for this?  My relationship with Brad has been strained lately.  Do we really want to bring a child into that?  What about  my career as  a pediatrician? I just became a resident after working so hard for two years.  Do I just throw that away?

I take a long, deep breath.  This is it.  My heart races as I walk over to the sink.  I glance down at the stick.

Two fat, purple lines.

"Brooke, add a hot tub to our must-have list." Jamie points out as she sinks into the hot, bubbly water.

"I'm on it!" Brooke replies, stretching her arms behind her head in pure bliss.  Now I'm wondering how many girls have been in this tub of liquid heaven.  How many of them made out with and straddled Brad?  Especially with this good-looking trio, it probably isn't hard for them to attract women when they go out.

Photobucket

"Damn baby, I'm getting hard..." Brad murmurs against my neck, interrupting my thoughts.  While my ears and eyes are glued to the on-going conversation between Jamie and Brooke,  my hand is stroking Brad's hard length under the hot, bubbly water.  I desperately fight the urge to bite my lower lip and let out a moan, knowing what we're doing is wrong and it's in front of our company.  I glance over at J.C., and he's busy staring at Brooke.  Jamie is now conversing with Luke, and from the look in her eyes, I can tell that she's having naughty thoughts about him.

"Shhhh..." I whisper against his ear as I lightly squeeze him, loving how hard and big he feels in my hand.  I'm so turned on that I just want to straddle him right now, I don't care if they're watching.  But of course I can't do that, not if I want our lovely guests to come back.  I also don't want Luke and J.C. to think I'm a freak.  Which Brad is turning me into.

Suddenly I feel someone's gaze burn on my body, and I turn towards Luke.  He quickly looks away, but for a brief moment, I catch the fire glowing in his pale, emerald green eyes.  They are immersed in a mixture of curiousity and desire for what he can't have.  There's something about the way he looks at me...as if he's imagining me doing these naughty, delicious things to him.  He seems to be devouring me with his eyes, and it makes me very uneasy, yet even more aroused.  Oh my God, what is wrong with me??  When did I become such a whore?

Photobucket

"What do you think they're doing?"Jamie whispers to J.C. with a smirk.

"I don't even wanna know." J.C. chuckles, closing his eyes as the steam caresses his face.

Photobucket

"I'm gonna go fire up the grill.  We're not done though." Brad lets out a deep breath as he tries to make his hard-on go away.

"You might want to wait a little bit." I whisper, giggling. After a few minutes, he climbs out of the hot tub.

"Dude!! You got a major tent goin' on!" J.C.'s eyes are wide open. I can even hear Jamie and Brooke giggling.

"You wish you had one, bro!" Brad yells as he walks away.

Photobucket

"I'm gonna go check on him.  I"ll be right back." I mutter to Jamie, who has a huge grin on her face.  Luke and J.C. went inside with Brooke, so it's just the two of us left.

"Uh huh..." She raises her eyebrows.

"You're a perv." I give her the evil eye, shaking my head.

"No, YOU'RE a perv. I know what ya'll were doing!"

"Seriously?? Was it that obvious?"

"Yeah. Even Luke and J.C. noticed. And let me tell ya, Luke was seriously looking."

"You noticed it too?" My heart races, now embarrassed of what he might think of me.

"I can tell he's a freak. With that body...mm, mm, mm." She bites her lower lip, her eyes glazing over.

"You guys should hook up. He's single."

"I don't know...he looks like he'll just fuck me and leave me."

"Oh my God, Jamie!!" We both start cracking up.

Photobucket

The smoky smell of lit charcoal penetrates my noise as I walk over to Brad. This reminds me of hot summer days when my dad would grill up steak and chicken in the backyard as music softly plays in the background. I would make iced tea sweetened with honey, Adam would help make the coleslaw, my mom would check on the peach cobbler baking in the oven and even Naveah would help cut up the seedless watermelon. Afterwards we would take a dip in the pool, the water cooling our skin against the intensity of the afternoon sun.

"You need any help?" I ask, watching the hot charcoal burning underneath the sizzling hotdogs.

"Umm...yeah, you can get the condiments ready." He coughs, trying to fan the smoke away.

"You okay?" I gently pat his back.

"I'm fine. It's just really smoky."

"Alright babe, I'll be inside if you need me."  I kiss him on the cheek before I head towards the kitchen.

Photobucket

"Do you need any help?" I hear a deep voice behind me as I grab the buns and mayo from the fridge. I turn around, and it's Mr. Green Eyes. My heart skips a beat.

"Umm...I'm just getting the stuff for the hot dogs." I reply, placing the ketchup and mustard on the counter.

"Anything I need to open? Jar of pickles?" He smiles, his eyes penetrating into mine.

"Haha. Umm..." I dig through the fridge and find an unopened can of relish. "You can open this."

"Thanks." He chuckles as the lid pops with one swoop of his large hand.

"Wow, you're pretty strong." I stare at the opened can of relish, then return his gaze.

"I've had a lot of practice." He grins mischievously, making me look away.

"I can't stand to fly
I'm not that naive
I'm just out to find
The better part of me"

Photobucket

My mind keeps telling me, "Stop! Walk away!" but my body feels hypnotized by his eyes and his presence.  I thought Brad was smooth with the ladies, but Luke...he's like a walking sex on a stick.  There's something about his ruggedness that pulls me to him, his facial hair, his masculinity. Why am I having these thoughts about my man's best friend?? Stop it!!

"Is that right?" I inch closer, ignoring my mind's protests.

"Yeah...I'm good with my hands..." His eyes scan my body from head to toe, then pause at my lips. My breath gets caught in my throat. Oh dear.

Photobucket

"Hey baby." Brad wraps his arms around me from behind, kissing my neck, making me gasp and shiver in surprise.  Oh shit.  What the hell am I doing?? Fuck, I hope he's not upset.

"Oh..hey sweetie!" His scent and the warmth of his body brings me back to reality, reminding me that my heart and body belongs to him. And only him.

"Did you get the stuff ready?" He squeezes my waist possessively.

"Yeah." I mumble as my eyes lock with Luke's.  He has this look on his face I can't describe.  I feel like I'm in a showdown between two virile, alpha males who have their eye on the same female.  Instead of feeling ashamed, I'm actually flattered by the attention, and it makes me feel even more sexy.

Suddenly I hear a loud explosion.  What the hell??

"Oh my God!!" I hear Brooke shriek from the balcony.  We all rush out of the kitchen to see what happened.

Photobucket

When I open the door, I see everyone huddled in front of the grill, which is engulfed in flames. The heat is so intense that I have to quickly let go of the door knob since it's burning my hand. Hot waves of red, orange and yellow take over the corner of the balcony as it quickly crawls up the walls.

"What happened??" I ask, watching the flames grow with every second that passes.

"The tank just exploded!!" J.C. explains, backing away from the heat.

Photobucket

"Oh my God!! It's getting worse!!" I panic, frozen in fear as the heat travels to the roof.  I want to run inside and grab a bucket of water, but my eyes are too fixated on the flames taking over the corner of the balcony.  I try to scream but no sound comes out, and all I can think is, Where's Brad?  Is he okay?

Photobucket

Clouds of black smoke take over us, and it becomes harder to breath.  I can hear everyone coughing around me but the sound of wood snapping and crackling is even louder, letting me know that the fire is much stronger than I expected. We are all blinded by the smoke, aimlessly wandering around in panic and bumping into each other.  I can hear the thumping of my own heart as I wonder if we are all going to make it out of this building alive.  What if the fire gets worse??

"I can't breathe!!"

"Somebody help!!"

"Call 911!!"

Photobucket

"Everybody, stay back!! Do not come any closer!!" I hear Luke yell from behind the wall of flames, holding the fire extinguisher.  I watch him calmly spray the busted propane tank first before he sprays the top of the grill.  The whooshing sound of the fire extinguisher slowly calms me down, letting me know that Luke is confidently battling the scorching heat.  Thank God he's here tonight!

"
I'm more than a bird
I'm more than a plane
I'm more than some pretty face
Beside a train
And it's not easy to be me"

Photobucket

"It's coming back!!" Brooke freaks out as Luke fearlessly goes after the stubborn flames taking over the wall and roof.

"You need to move back!! I got this!" He assures Brooke as he moves closer, increasing the pressure of the fire extinguisher.

Photobucket

I watch as the last glimmer of orange and yellow dies down, overpowered by a shower of white, chalky substance.  Silence takes over the air as everyone lets out a sigh of relief.  We're all standing there for a moment, trying to grasp what just happened.  I look over at Luke as he wipes his forehead and lets out a deep breath.  It's over.  A part of me just wants to wrap my arms around him right now, to let him know how thankful I am that he just saved our lives.  I know he's a fireman and that's his job, but he still risked his life for us.  He stepped in front of the smoke and flames, knowing he could have been burned or damaged his lungs from smoke inhalation.

Photobucket

"Hey man..." Brad walks up to Luke with a solemn look on his face.  Whatever happened earlier, he must have been able to move past it.

"Hey..." Luke looks at Brad nervously.

"Thank you for what you did." A smile forms on Brad's lips, letting bygones be bygones.

"It was nothing." Luke smiles back with a sigh of relief.

Photobucket

Amidst the crowd, our eyes find each other.  I can still feel my pulse slowing down, but the sight of him makes it jump again.  After seeing what he did, I've developed a new sense of respect and admiration for him.  Despite his macho bravado, I sense a kind soul who will do anything  to protect those that matter to him.  Even those that he just met.  In fact, he's willing to risk his own life for strangers, and he does this everyday.  I don't know if it's the rush from tonight's close call with death but I can feel him gently tugging at my heartstrings.  It doesn't change how I feel about Brad, but a part of me wonders...what if?  And I think this question is even more dangerous than the strong flames and smoke inhalation combined.

Photobucket

"Are you okay?" J.C. asks Brooke.

"Yeah. I thought we were all going to die tonight." She mumbles, inching closer towards him.

"I know. Me too." His eyes never leave hers.

"You wanna get out of here?" She whispers.

"Yeah." He places his hand on the small of her back as they walk back inside.

Photobucket

With Brad's arms wrapped protectively around my waist, we say goodbye to Brooke and J.C. as they head to the elevator. Luke and Jamie linger at the door.

"We still had fun even with the crazy fire." Jamie comments, looking at Luke.

"We did." Luke returns her smile.

"It was good to see you, bro. Thanks again." Brad mutters behind me.

"Thanks Luke." I mumble, our eyes connecting again.

"Don't mention it." His gaze lingers just a little bit longer before he turns to Jamie. "You need a ride home?"

"Yeah. Brooke just took off with J.C." She chuckles.

"I'm only a man
In a funny red sheet

Chapter Nineteen (Jessie's Girl)

Previously, on "Memoirs Of A City Girl":
Ch. 18 (Bittersweet Faith)
-Brad and I met up at the art gallery, but he was late.
-To get him back, I told him that I wasn't wearing any panties.
-He decided to torture me back with the lewd, filthy things that came out of his mouth.
-I got all hot and bothered...and pissed.
-I threatened to deny him "kitty", which made him apologize quickly.
-Our dip in the hot tub at The Prosper Room got too steamy, so he surprised me with a romantic picnic at the beach.
-He said "I love you", which made me feel like I was on cloud nine.
-After our risky tryst with people around, he asked me to move in with him.
-I replied with "Yes! God, yes!"

"You made it!!" I flash Jamie and Brooke a warm smile when I open the door.

"You're alive!!" Jamie pretends to have a shocked look on her face.

"You better give me all the juicy details." Brooke gives me a sheepish smile, tossing her long, blonde hair.

It's been a month since I moved in with Brad, and my best friends have been anxious to meet this mystery guy who makes me blush like a schoolgirl.  They hardly saw me anymore.  Twice a month we would have a girl's night: single girls having fun and enjoying each other's company.  If we don't dress up to go to a club or lounge, we either have a slumber party (to gorge on junk food and sangria) or meet up at the spa.  We would complain about why all the good men are taken, and why the creepy ones are the only ones that have enough balls to aproach us.

"Come on in, girls." I hold the door open for them as they walk inside.

"It's so good to see you!" I sigh as I give Jamie a warm hug.

"You too. I missed you, girly!" She replies as she pulls me tight.

"Hot mama! Look at you in a bikini." Brooke teases as we lean in for an embrace.

"Oh, stop.  You're the hot bikini queen." I smile, shaking my head.

"Hehe.  That how I snag 'em.  Then bam! They won't know what hit 'em."

"I swear, this girl has like 3 stalkers at the moment.  You need to bottle some of that shit and and sell it, Brooke." Jamie gives her a light shove.

"Uhh no.  You need to tell Lyn that.  She got this guy asking her to move in. In one month!"

"I know, right?? Bottle some of that and ship it to me!" Jamie turns to me, wiggling her eyebrows.

"Haha. You're a dork, Jamie.  Come on, let me introduce you to Brad." I change the subject.

"Ooooooh, Brad!!" They both chant in unison, grinning.

Photobucket

"Hi baby, my friends are here." I announce, loving the sight of him shirtless.  Yeah, that right.  He's all mine!

"I'm glad you guys made it." He walks over to us.

"This is Jamie, and this is Brooke."

"Nice to meet you, Brad.  We've heard so much about you." Jamie extends her hand.

"Likewise.  She talks about you guys all the time." He flashes her a smile, shaking her hand.

"Nice to finally meet you." Brooke offers her hand as well.

"You too, Brooke."

While I make more drinks, Brad strikes up a conversation with the girls.  It's so nice  for them to finally meet each other.  I've known Brooke since the fourth grade.  I remember when she and her family moved into my neighborhood, and we ran into each other outside, riding our bikes.  We became best friends in one week.  Her hair was as dark as Brad's back then, and cascaded down her waist.  She looked like a young Cleopatra: exquisitely, exotically beautiful with her pale, caribbean blue eyes.  I attribute that to her mother, who is half Chinese and French, and her father, who is from Bridgeport.  She definitely inherited her mother's stunning eyes.

"This place is beautiful." Jamie observes as she sips her drink.

"Thanks.  But I can't take credit for that.  Lyn redecorated most of it.  I told her, you can do whatever you want as long as you don't make everything pink."

"Haha.  That's a nice compromise." Jamie chuckles.

"Yeah, the place looks great.  And the view is just gorgeous!" Brooke chimes in.

"Thanks, Brooke.  I'm glad I moved here last year because it was a lot cheaper.  People are buying the units as condos now."

"We're trying to get our own place as well.  But most of the nice places are so expensive." Jamie adds.

"We've been looking around for a month with no luck." Brooke sighs.

Photobucket

"I know someone who works with rental properties.  I can give you his number if you want." Brad offers.

"Thanks, that would be great." Jamie smiles.

"So Lyn tells us that you're going to be doctor." Brooke comments with a look of curiousity in her eyes.

"Oh, she did, did she?" He chuckles, looking over at me.

"Yeah.  What field of medicine are you studying?"  Jamie asks.

"Well, I'll be eligible for residency next semester.  Right now, general practitioner.  Until I figure out what I want to specialize in."

"That's awesome." Brooke nods, with a look on her face as if she's wondering how I snagged him.

The sound of the doorbell interrupts my attempt at making sangria.  Oh dear, that must be Lucas and J.C.  My heart races.  This is my first time meeting them, and my stomach is in knots.  I hope I make a good impression.  Brad thinks highly of them, and it would mean so much if they approve of me too.  As I walk towards the door, I take a deep breath.

Photobucket

I'm greeted by a pair of intense, light green eyes.  They sparkle like pale emeralds, and I swear they have a faint glow.  They penetrate through me, making me lose my breath for a second.  Well fuck me, he is hot!!  His eyes travel to my body, and it makes me very aware that I'm in a bikini.  Yeah, nice way to make a good impression, Lyn! Show them some skin. I don't know if this is Brad's brother or best friend, but damn. Can't think. Now I know how Superman feels when he's around kryptonite.  Hot men.  They are my kryptonite.  They suck me in with their eyes, they make my pulse race with their muscular bodies, and seduce me with their smile.

"Hi, uhh..Lyn?" He flashes me a nervous smile.  Whew.  At least I'm not the only one that's nervous.

"Yes.  Let me guess...Lucas?"

"Yeah, how did you know? You can call me Luke." He looks surprised, but his smile widens.

"Lucky guess?" How did I know this?

"I'm J.C.!!" The red-haired rock star look-alike yells behind Luke.

"Hi J.C., nice to meet you.  Come on in." I nervously wait for them to step inside before I close the door.

"Jessie is a friend,
Yeah, I know he's been
A good friend of mine
But lately something's changed
That ain't hard to define
Jessie's got himself a girl

And I wanna make her mine"

Photobucket

"We finally get to meet the girl that got Brad.  He talks about you all the time." Luke's gaze makes me so uneasy that I look away.

"It's true.  My brother is so sprung, its pathetic.  Don't tell him I said that.  He'll kick my butt." J.C. grins.

"Oh wow, I had no idea.  What can I say? I'm just as crazy about him." This is the confirmation I needed to hear.  A big weight has been lifted off my shoulders, and I finally know that his feelings are just as deep as mine.

"He's out in the balcony with my friends.  Let me introduce you to them." I mutter as they follow me.

Photobucket

"Hey!! It's good to see you, bro!" Brad's face lights up when he sees Luke.

"You've been hiding from us.  How've you been?" Luke asks, patting his back.

"You know, been busy.  Work, school, the usual."

"I see that.  But that's not what's keeping you busy."

"Ha.  So I guess you met Lyn."

"Yeah, she's really cool."

It's almost strange to meet the people in Brad's life.   They feel like an extension of him, of the type of person he is, and I'm able to see him through their eyes.  We've been holed up in our own little cocoon of love, tucked in our own little world, that sometimes it feels like the universe revolves around us.  Especially since I moved in, there are times when we don't leave the bedroom for days.  If we're not sharing a hot session in bed (or the living room, or the hot tub, or the kitchen...and sometimes in public), we're at the beach or the bistro. Or just taking a stroll at the park.  At first I thought moving in this soon would be risky, but right now it feels so right.  It makes sense.  We can't get enough of each other.

Photobucket

"Brooke's been eyeing you.  You should talk to her." Brad suggests.

"Which one is Brooke?"

"The blonde one.  She's single."

Photobucket

"No way, dude.  You act like I have a chance." J.C. shakes his head.

"Well, you better make your move before Luke does.  He doesn't waste time."

Photobucket

As I watch Jamie and Luke head upstairs to change, I start to wonder if there's a possibility between them. I don't know that much about his dating history, but I know Jamie would find him hot.  We have the same taste in men: hot, charming and amazing in bed.  And they don't come around that often.

Photobucket

"Yeahh buddy!" Brad mercilessly shoots the zombies invading the house.

"Hey!! You shot me! What the hell??" J.C. complains, watching his character's lifeline decrease.

"My bad, bro.  I told you to stay close to us!" Brad gives him a brief  look of remorse before securing the premises.

"Like J.C. ever listens.  Remember that one time he tried to jump off your dad's truck with a skateboard?" Luke cringes, as another zombie sneaks up from behind.

"Haha yeah!  We were all, don't do it!  And what does he do?" Brad chuckles, shaking his head.

"He starts from the roof of the truck then tries to flip the skateboard at the same time." Luke adds.

"No, not this story again!" J.C. groans, rolling his eyes.

"What happened?" I ask while trying to cover Brad.

"He landed on the bed the wrong way and snapped his shin bone in half."

"Ouch!! That sounds painful!" I hiss through my teeth, shuddering at the image of his white bone sticking out of his leg.

"Yeah, that was crazy." J.C. shakes his head, with a solemn look in his eyes.  I guess that taught him a lesson.

Photobucket

"You don't forget that shit.  He was screaming like he was being gutted." Luke briefly looks  over at J.C.

"And all the blood that came out.  That was crazy." Brad reflects, pausing the game to check his stats.

"You guys sound like you're really close." I mutter, admiring the comraderie between this yummy hotfest.  Seeing Brad, Luke and J.C. together, shirtless, is almost too much.  And knowing they are close makes it even more sexy.  I wish I had this type of relationship with my sister and mom.  It makes me a little sad, so I push it out of my head and try to concentrate on the game.

"Luke has two brothers.  We all grew up in the same neighborhood." J.C. shares.

"Oh, really?"  Now I'm intrigued.  Are they as hot as him??

"I have two younger brothers.  Nate and Jake."  Luke briefly looks in my direction, and our eyes connect for a moment.  Oh dear.

"Tell her Luke." J.C. wiggles his eyebrows.

"Tell her what?"

"You know, what you guys do."

"Oh.  Naw, dude."

"What? What do you do?" Personal sex slave? Private dancer? Professional eye candy?

"We're firefighters." His eyes burn through mine this time, and they linger just a little longer.  Oh, hotness!! Three firemen who are brothers?? If they are even half as hot as Luke, I'll set myself on fire just to have them carry me out of the building.  Mmm...there's something so sexy about firemen.  So strong, so rugged, so heroic...and so selfless.  You can break my window anytime!  Oh wait...not this window.  Maybe my parents' window or Brad will kill me.

"Oh." This is the only word that leaves my mouth.

Photobucket

Later that night, Brad and I join Brooke and J.C. in the hot tub.

"Man, this is the life, bro." J.C. mutters as the hot, bubbly water dance around his skin.

"Ha, you act like I got all this for free.  Finish school and you can have it too." Brad stretches his arms behind his back.

"What are you studying, J.C.?" Brooke asks, eyeing him.

"Business.  I want to work in finance. What about you?" He returns her gaze.

"Psychology.  I want to be a school counselor."

"Nice.  How come I haven't seen you on campus?"

"I kind of started late.  I was working full time before."

"That's understandable." He flashes her a warm smile.

Oooh, what if they hook up??

Photobucket

"This looks like a fun party." Luke's voice interrupts my mental trip to the happy place.  Holy shit, look at that body!!  I look away, cursing my pulse for racing at the sight of his abs..and chest...and arms.  Oh hell, all of him!

"Oh...hey Luke." Brooke stammers, and I know exacty what's on her mind right now. Man-rape!!

Photobucket

"You didn't bring any beer, dude?" Brad asks.

"Oh, crap.  I forgot." Luke mutters as he plants himself next to Brooke, who is probably trying to keep her own grubby hands to herself.

"J.C., bring us some beer." Brad looks over at his brother, who looks pretty content next to Jamie.
,
"You'll have to pry me off this hot tub first.  Do it. I dare ya." J.C. gives him the beady eyes.

Photobucket

"Oops..." J.C. mumbles as he splashes water on Jamie.

"Oh, I'm sooo gonna get you back!" She threatens as waves of hot water bombards his face endlessly.

"Okay, okay, I'm sorry!" He covers his face with his hands, trying to avoid the onslaught.

Photobucket

"You alright?' Brad whispers as he puts his arms around me, stroking my back.

"Yeah, I'm just relaxing." I sigh as I inch closer to him, savoring his warm, moist skin next to mine.

Photobucket

"Mmm...I want you so bad right now." He murmurs against my neck, sending a warm wave of tingles to my face and my moist parts.

"Behave..." I giggle, discreetly caressing his thigh under the bubbling water.

Photobucket

"And she's watching him with those eyes
And she's lovin' him with that body
I just know it
Yeah and he's holding her in his arms late,
Late at night

You know I wish that I had Jessie's girl"
